Mentally ill man slaughters boy, 3

KOTA BARU: A three-year-old boy died after he was slaughtered by a close relative in an incident at their home in Kampung Sungai Budor, here Tuesday.

His attacker sustained injuries in the neck after he was believed to have turned the knife on himself in the 11.40am incident.

The boy, Mohd Adam Muzaffar Muhaimi, died on the spot.

The boy's grandfather, Nik Hashim Nik Abdullah, 64, who lives nearby, said his daughter Nik Suzila, 32, who is the boy's mother, came and told him about the incident.

He then contacted the police who later arrested the 33-year-old man, who has a history of mental illness.

Police also found a knife believed to be the weapon used in the incident.

The man, an odd job worker, last worked as a security guard at a supermarket here.

Nik Hashim said the man was believed to have run out medication for quite some time.

"He kept to himself of late," he said when met.

Adam Muzaffar was the second of three siblings. His body was sent to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital and later claimed by his family for burial.

State acting police chief ACP Mazlan Lazim confirmed the incident and said that police were investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. - Bernama
